As a Manufacturing Engineer, you evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools and procedures behind Google's powerful search technology.

When vendors build parts for our infrastructure, you're right there alongside ensuring manufacturing processes are repeatable and controlled.

You collaborate with Commodity Managers and Design Engineers to determine Google's infrastructure needs and product specifications.

Your work ensures the various pieces of Google's infrastructure fit together perfectly and keep our systems humming along smoothly for a seamless user experience.

The Manufacturing Operations team is responsible for providing the manufacturing capability to deliver state-of-the-art physical infrastructure.

As a Supplier Quality Engineer, you'll evaluate the product designs and create the processes, tools, and procedures behind Google’s search technology.

As a Supplier Quality Engineer for Optics, you will join the team responsible for setting and managing the quality and reliability standards for our optical components and modules.

You'll work on improving and maintaining the quality of sustaining optical components and modules throughout the life cycle and collaborate to drive sourcing diversity, quality, and cost.

In this role, you'll contribute excellent partner management skills, a passion for data, and the ability to use it to drive design or manufacturing process improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Supplier quality programs including continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Drive and execute Returned Material Authorization (RMAs) and failure analyses, establish root causes, and drive corrective actions.
  • Lead and manage end to end sustaining product internal and external quality metrics (e.g., metric calculation, metric resolution, trend review, internal reporting, etc.).
  • Perform regular audits of Supplier manufacturing facilities and assess production control and quality programs. Identify shortfalls to expectation and directly secure resolution.
  • Lead management of product change notifications (PCNs) and drive appropriate evaluation and qualification with Engineering teams.
  • Minimum qualifications :

  • Bachelor's degree in Optics, Electrical / Mechanical Engineering, related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 3 years of experience as a component / quality / reliability / product engineer with optical transceiver.
  • Experience developing process quality plans and audits and driving corrective actions and failure analysis efforts.
  • Experience with optical transceiver quality / reliability concepts and general manufacturing operations.
  • Preferred qualifications :

  • 2 years of experience scripting / coding (e.g., SQL, Python, MATLAB, and JMP).
  • Experience in project management, problem-solving tools including design of experiments, root cause analysis, and statistical process control principles.
  • Experience leading product and process non-conformance : CAR, 8D and RMAs, failure analysis and reporting.
  • Knowledge of optical transceiver components and modules design, manufacturing, characterization, qualification, testing, quality, reliability.
  • Ability to take initiative, drive actions, resolve conflict and communicates effective across all levels.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and communication skills.
