How will you make an impact?*The Applications Engineer is responsible for the application development in the support of tool evaluation at specific customer semiconductor product developments.
This position is ideal for a technologist wanting to be involved with a complementary team and exposed to a constant variety of customer application areas.
What will you do? Perform high quality SEM (scanning electron microscopy) and FIB product demonstrations, including the development of new techniques and applications for Thermo Fisher partners and customers, particularly those in the Semiconductor marketplace.
Conduct customer training and translate customer needs into workable solutions* Providing technical product expertise support with all phases of the tool evaluation.
Provide continuous feedback to the product groups on system performance, features, and potential problems while collaborating with marketing / development groups on future product developments.
Guide the customer in writing production recipes and qualification experiments to drive the production use of FEI’s tools.
Act as a primary communication conduit to the factory by reporting engineering and production issues from the customer to FEI.
Recommend on direction for potential applications consistent with customer requirements and technical feasibility.* Provide technical support to R&D, SSD, Manufacturing, Customer Service and other departments as required.
How will you get here? Minimum educational is a bachelor’s degree in Physics, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, Chemistry and or Materials Science, Physics, an advanced degree is preferred.
3-5 years’ experience in application development and customer engagement using Microscopy technology in sample characterization.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities Knowledge and recent hands-on experience with FIB / SEM / TEM is required.* Knowledge of advanced technology diagnostics as well as fault finding techniques, operational optimization, and experience of analytical equipment;
specifically, electron / ion microscopes.* High level understanding of semiconductor device processing, statistical process control, device physics and failure analysis techniques.
