The candidate will provide electrical design engineering expertise for capital projects at Albemarle Corporation Facilities in the APAC region.
The candidate will be experienced in power systems, power studies, grounding and lightning protection. The candidate will provide electrical design guidance on new and existing electrical power installations relevant to code and corporate requirements, along with serving as an interface between the global project engineering team and the project sites in China.
This position will work with internal and external resources on project design teams to take a project from early concept to final installation.
Designs will ensure that the final electrical installation will be safe, reliable, operable, economical, and environmentally sound.
This position will be a member of site engineering team report to disciplining leader and will be expected to manage multiple projects of various sizes.
The position is based at the Jiangxi site office. Expected travel is less than 25% and will be primarily short duration trips to gather information needed for design, review third party engineering, manufacturer visits or to inspect construction.
The candidate is fluent in both English and Chinese (Mandarin)

Ensure that project-funding estimate input for electrical systems are compiled, submitted correctly and timely with a high degree of accuracy.
Ensure that design packages and installations comply with applicable codes, regulations, Albemarle Corporation and industry standards and specifications, and best practices for chemical process plant design.
Ensure that technical content and quality of designs and installation meet requirements of project scopes. The designs must be complete and have the required quality in order to minimize field change orders.
Ensure that specific discipline design activities are completed in accordance with the capital project schedule and budget.
Exhibit specific discipline expertise while preparing technical evaluations with a keen ability to collect and analyze background information to arrive at various solutions.
Exhibit effective communication and interaction with team members, internal customers, and external suppliers.Ensure regular and efficient communication with supervision on project progress, changes in scope, and any other relevant issues that may affect completion of assigned tasks.
Position will be responsible to the project management teams and reporting to the Global EIC Engineering LeaderSubject Matter Expert on electrical safety, personal protective equipment, insulated tools and mitigation of electrical hazards, along with extensive knowledge of NFPA 70E.
Provide proactive electrical power system engineering input to capital project scope, budget, and schedule development as required.
Develop solid conceptual and front-end engineering designs for electrical power system requirements on capital projects that will be outsourced for detailed design.
These robust conceptual and front-end engineering designs will be used to develop project estimates and must minimize detail design and construction scope changes in later phases of the project.
Work with other design and drafting teammates to develop and maintain design packages and solutions that are within the scope of the capital project and are accurate, workable, economical, and in compliance with all pertinent standards, specifications, codes, and regulations.
Provide specific discipline guidance for outsourced engineering staffing for projects. This guidance must be designed to meet project budgets and schedules.
Possess a strong knowledge and level of electrical power system equipment used in the chemical processing industry.Provide independent guidance and oversight of outsourced capital project design activities, special studies, etc.
Monitor and review specific discipline contractor, deliverables, and progress related to schedule, budget, and quality and coordinate necessary corrective actions.
Provide discipline design guidance to project team to identify proper construction management resources in order to assure a safe and accurate installation of project electrical power system equipment that is compliant with design and codes.
Provide discipline design guidance to project team to identify proper commissioning, start-up, and site-training resources related to electrical power system installations on projects.
Create and maintain specific discipline design requirements documentation related to use of outsourced detailed design engineering.
Identify opportunities for improvement and develop solutions, tools, and engineering guidelines that standardize engineering design parameters and processes along with improving the efficiency, quality, and speed of the electrical power system design process.
Provide quality assurance plans for fabricated equipment and collaborate with quality sourcing team to arrange staffing to execute factory acceptance tests.
Communicates directly with outside vendors and third party engineering companies to accomplish assigned tasks, in compliance with all applicable codes, regulations and standards.
Maintain informed, comprehensive knowledge of Albemarle Corporation facilities in order to provide wide-ranging electrical power system technical support activities and evaluation efforts, including advanced troubleshooting, problem solving, and failure analysis related to electrical power system installations.
Provide reliable solutions to modify electrical power system equipment at operating facilities to improve safety and / or reduce costs.
Maintain and expand current knowledge of industry standards, regulations, and best practices and research new developments in theory and application in the electrical power system engineering field.
This knowledge shall be shared with peers and supervision and used to deploy new technologies as appropriate on capital projects or in support of technical problems at Albemarle Corporation.
Provide specific discipline expertise to assure continuity and maintenance of Albemarle Corporation Engineering Specifications and Standards, including best practice documentation related to electrical power system design.
These documents must align and comply with regulatory and chemical process industry requirements and best practices.Drive and / or coordinate specific design discipline initiatives as requested to improve safety, quality, or productivity at Albemarle Corporation sites.
Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution of higher learning15+ years of electrical power system engineering in chemical or petrochemical processing plantsSignificant demonstrated experience performing electrical power system design on projects with TIC budgets in excess of $50,000,000 USSignificant demonstrated experience with electrical power systems up to 110 kV (including selection, calculations, specification, procurement, wiring design for construction packages, commissioning, startup, and maintenance)Significant demonstrated knowledge of electrical distribution systems 400 volts and greaterDemonstrated knowledge of instrument and controls systems is a plusWorking knowledge of Chinese electrical regulatory codes and regulationsWorking knowledge of electrical modeling software as it relates to incident energy, short circuit ratings, and protective device coordinationSignificant demonstrated experience governing EPC firms executing design and construction.
Significant demonstrated experience with electrical power system design during all phases of the capital project life cycle scope development, detailed design, construction, and commissioning.
Significant demonstrated knowledge of applicable electrical power systems engineering code requirements, standards, and best practices for chemical process plant design (OSHA, NFPA, API, NEC, IEEE, IEC, and / or the applicable host country codes).
The candidate shall be intimately familiar with such documentation for US installations and have a good working knowledge of the applicable documents and requirements for international installations.
This demonstrated knowledge would include specific design and evaluation experience with such documents.Ability to perform design in AutoCAD is a plusDetail oriented and possess excellent follow up skills.
