Job Summary :

This position will be responsible for all day-to-day management of the cloud development functions within the engineering team.

This includes planning, staffing, budgeting, vendor management, managing priorities, escalations, recommending and implementing changes to process, system architecture and development.

The Manager of Cloud Development will work with other functional directors and managers as well as engineers, external partners and vendors, and other business unit leaders to achieve these goals.

The ideal candidate needs to have excellent and proven communication, management, leadership and motivation skills. The successful Manager must be a hands-

on, results oriented, collaborative individual. The position requires full grasp and experience in development methodologies and ability to adapt these methodologies to the development environment.

Other responsibilities will include technically as well as motivationally leading a team of engineers to ensure goal alignment, setting and communicating execution strategy, architectural alignment, and coordination.

Excellent verbal, written, and presentation communication skills will be absolutely critical to the success of this position.

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with other functional directors and engineering managers to structure and manage the execution of successful products with no supervision and little guidance and will be able to create new approaches as required.

Ability to present technical material to a wide audience including executive and other non-technical clientele will be helpful.

Will contribute ideas and / or concepts that support the generation of intellectual property. The successful candidate takes initiative and demonstrates self motivation and enthusiasm to solve problems.

Specific responsibilities include :

  • Lead, manage, and supervise a team of system architects, developers, and other support staff in the Taiwan office.
  • Work with Product Manager in understanding the product and system requirement.
  • Work with other system architects in the Engineering team to design optimal systems to satisfy the product requirements.
  • Plan the development execution with resource constraints in mind and optimize the resource usage
  • Manage the development execution to successful completion
  • Be accountable for a global team of full time and vendor software engineers
  • Requires flexible hours to work with offshore teams as necessary
  • Monitor and supervise day-to-day activities of the team including technical design, work breakdown, code reviews, unit testing, launch plans, quality metrics
  • Work closely with the Quality Assurance team to ensure holistic Application Lifecycle Management is being adhered to in order to deliver quality products that drive ecstatic experiences
  • Lead by example and instill a culture of collaboration and transparency
  • Keep senior management informed about project status, opportunities and issues
  • Conduct performance evaluations while mentoring developers and senior developers in coding techniques
  • Work with other functional managers and directors to set expectations, communicate status, risk assessments, priorities, etc.
  • Work with the finance team to set and manage the overall software engineering team’s budget
  • Lead the effort to create both software engineering internal best practices as well as cross functional collaborative best practices.
  • Work to educate the rest of the organization regarding the opportunities, challenges, processes, risks and needs of the software engineering organization.
  • Demonstrate expert knowledge of cross-functional and related technical areas such as quality techniques, regulatory compliance, software configuration management and release management and hardware & software build cycles.
  • Research upcoming projects and present findings to divisional leadership and integrate results into team technical strategy.

  • Extensive experience in several software development languages such as C, PERL, Java, HTML, SQL, scripting languages, etc.
  • Extensive experience in several operating systems such as Windows and Linux.
  • Experience with application services technologies such as Tomcat
  • Ability to implement cloud solutions using web cloud service infrastructure such as AWS
  • Extensive experience in database design and development in well know database systems such as Oracle and MySQL and associated tools
  • Expertise in NAT traversal technologies and messaging protocols such as XMPP, STUN, TURN, ICE
  • Extensive experience in designing, implementing, deploying, and supporting large communication systems that include web services, hardware devices, and other software clients.

  • Education and Experience Requirements :

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent combination of education & experience
  • At least 15 years of directly related experience
