Role Profile

The Research analyst will join the Global Markets Research (GMR) team that is part of FTSE Russell research department. The role will be based in Taipei and reports to the Associate Director, GMR in London.

The GMR team is responsible for the development and production of datasets that are incorporated into a range of regular research reports.

These reports analyse global market dynamics across asset classes utilising FTSE Russell index data where possible. The target audience for these reports are Portfolio Managers, Asset Allocation teams and Investment Committees covering a spectrum of asset owners, investment managers and wealth managers across the globe.

The Team is based both in London and New York. The Research analyst will be responsible for aiding the development and maintenance of regular Asia-

focused versions of the GMR team’s research reports.

Key Responsibilities

  • Working closely with the London team extracting, creating and maintaining large datasets across a broad range of asset classes, in multiple currencies and from multiple systems / sources.
  • Conversion of raw datasets into report-standard tables and charts.
  • Analysis and interpretation of financial market and macro economic data, charts and statistics with the aim of providing commentary for regular research reports.
  • Production of regular GMR research reports and presentations, spanning multiple asset classes, regions and macro-economic topics.
  • Candidate Profile and Key Skills

    It is expected that with limited supervision the individual will deliver each of the key objectives of the role identified above, working to strict deadlines and to the highest degree of accuracy.

  • Good understanding of investment and macro-economic concepts, particularly valuation metrics, investment ratios and measures of returns and performance.
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills are essential, particularly Excel. Knowledge of Microsoft SQL is desirable, particularly experience with querying and extracting from databases.
  • Some working knowledge of Thomson Reuters DataStream and Eikon particularly Excel add-in and Chart Studio, is desirable.
  • Experience of working with large and varied datasets.
  • Education to bachelor’s degree in a finance / economics related subject is desirable. Financial qualification (eg CFA), or working towards financial qualification would also be desirable.
  • Knowledge of statistical concepts is essential.
  • Strong analytical skills. Ability to analyse and interpret datasets and charts.
  • Ability to work to strict deadlines, manage workloads and deal with frequent ad-hoc requests from multiple global locations.
