The Wafer Inspection Division (WIN) is the world leader in the design and manufacture of advanced optical inspection tools for inline monitoring of process defects in advanced semiconductor factories.
This Principal Algorithm Engineer position belongs to tsmc home team, part of HQ engineering organization for Broad-band Plasma wafer inspection in the Global Product Group (GPG) of KLA-
Tencor Corporation. The charter of the engineering organization is to develop and provide inline monitoring solutions to the semiconductor fabrication industry for detecting and understanding yield limiting defects that impact their cutting-
edge devices. TSMC home team will focus on solving / addressing tsmc specific challenges. This position offers a unique opportunity to those who are seeking technical challenges in the following domains : advanced microscopy technology;
broadband DUV optical system characterization; high speed high precision motion control; high speed high precision autofocus system;
high power broadband DUV light source; light / material interaction; image processing and machine learning algorithms.
Job responsibilities of this position include :
Lead a team with algorithm, SW and system engineers to address TSMC specific challenges.
Provide technical support for escalations in various of product life cycle phases onsite.
Interacting with TSMC business unit, GSS (Global Service Support) and customers to investigate solutions.
Analyzing the signal and noise characteristics of yield limiting defects on cutting edge IC devices through collaboration with the customer
Formulating system solutions with optical and / or algorithm and / or SW innovations / improvements that enable reliable detection of challenging defects
Validating the solution concept via simulation and prototyping.
Working with various subsystem / functional teams in HQ to translate the solution concept into actual product design specifications.
Create and execute test plans and perform analysis to validate system performance against the specifications.
Working with subsystem / functional teams on the design and execution of the product / feature evaluation plan to demonstrate the entitlement of the product / feature inside customer’s fab
Must have a strong background in engineering or the physical sciences and demonstrated analysis and problem-solving skills.
Have a good understanding of Optical / Algorithms / Software systems and their interactions in the context of complex industrial equipment.
Strong diagnostic and trouble shooting skills in subsystem level including optics, opto-mechanics, motion control systems and algorithm.
Experience in developing a subsystem in one or more of the above areas are highly desirable.
Capability of perform scientific and algorithmic analysis with script language such as Matlab / Python is a must.
Prototyping skill with C / C++ is a plus.
Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes and image analysis is desirable.
Should have the ability to influence functional groups to drive system level decisions.
Agility and ability to thrive on a fast-paced program and respond quickly to customer escalations.
Ability to define objectives clearly, create and track schedules effectively, and drive the team to a solution.
Must be an effective communicator able to share technical information with functional groups and provide executive level reports to management and customers.
Experience to lead small cross functional teams.
PhD with 7+ years of experience or MS with 10+ years of experience in applied optics, electrical engineering, physics, computer sciences, physics and mathematics or related disciplines is desired.
