The successful candidate will have a background in testing, knowledge of manufacturing and enjoy hands on work. The test lab engineer will perform static and dynamic tests to help evaluate if all design criteria are met before production approval.
They will also assist in development of future tests, evaluation of tested components and the evaluation of any non-conformities discovered in testing.
As a member of a small team you will be expected to wear many hats’ as we work together to develop industry leading bikes!
Job Responsibilities :
Test Lab Testing (75% of weekly workload)
SBCT test lab development and day to day running.
Coordinate testing requirements with the development team including test request setup, test priority, required fixtures and procedures.
Perform daily testing including setup, tear down and report writing, documenting all results and failure locations.
Organize all test items for future inspection and analysis.
Ensure that all machines are receiving proper maintenance to obtain reliable test results and ensure the machine life is maximized.
Determine all test lab fixture and tool requirements to optimize efficiency and throughput. Work with all SBC test labs to source and order items as needed based on capacity and demand.
Educate SBC employees in other departments as required about test standards, results and logic behind the tests.
Work with supplier test lab to identify differences in fixtures and procedures and develop correction plan to correlate testing results.
Ensure appropriate and careful setup of test samples, make sure all step follow work instructions.
Project Development (20% of weekly workload)
Assist SBC Design Engineering team with test development of projects :
As assigned, review all new projects for potential fixture requirements with project team. Ensure all new fixture designs are completed, sourced and approved for testing before first prototypes are ready for testing.
Complete all inspection documents for new fixtures ensuring all fixtures meet drawing requirements and approve fixtures ensuring fit, form and function for proper testing.
Create or update all associated work instructions and test documentation for any newly created fixtures.
Update all testing results to project test tracking summary to ensure project status is visible to all team members and project documents are stored properly.
Perform failure mode analysis by working with design engineer and materials engineer to identify the failure initial location and potential root causes.
As requested, cut samples and provide thickness and hardness measurements, recording information in an analysis report forward to development team.
Continuous improvement to increase lab accuracy and efficiency (5% of weekly workload)
Work with team members to identify opportunities in the lab to improve the current process :
Proactively identify areas for process improvements during test setup and review them with the test lab team in weekly meetings.
As assigned, find solutions to improve issues with test setups, fixtures or work instructions.
What you’ll need to win :
College degree in technical subjects (B.S. in engineering or manufacturing).
Minimum 6 years practical engineering experience with a minimum of 3 years in testing or manufacturing role, including : Experience setting up and running tests with ability to follow documented procedures, operate and adjust machinery and fixtures as required.
Experience in basic manufacturing process including stamping, forging, extrusion, tube forming, heat treatment, injection molding, casting, welding alloy structures & machining of alloys and composites.
Ability to interpret test results and suggest solutions if part does not meet requirements.
Proven experience creating and reading 2 dimensional drawings with geometric dimensioning and tolerances (GD&T). You may also be required to modify or create new drawings or parts for new test fixtures.
Familiarity with part inspection including basic hand-held inspection tools and CMM for first article inspection. You will need to inspect fixtures and tools making sure they meet drawing dimensions and tolerance.
Excellent spoken and written English (Vietnamese and / or Chinese are a plus).
Ability to perform job responsibilities with limited supervision.
This position requires full time residency near Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam with regular travel to Taiwan and the USA.
Proficient computer skills including MS Word, Excel, PTC / Creo and AutoCAD. With an ability to learn Agile PLM software
Avid cyclist and good bike mechanic preferred.
Proven ability to work within a team environment and promote a positive work environment.
