Job Summary of Platform SW Test Manager
As a Manager of Platform Test engineering, you will manage Platform Software and Firmware test Engineers within the Core Storage Engineering BU.
You direct activities of groups of Engineers focused on qualifying platform level software and Firmware for operating systems that run NetApp storage applications.
These committed teams write test plans and execute the tests for new storage platform SW / FW features, enhancements to existing products, Automation development as well as help SW development team to create new products.
As part of the Research and Development function, the overall focus of the group is on competitive market and customer requirements, technology advances, product quality, product cost and time-to-market.
A major part of the candidate’s responsibility will be to provide direction and supervision to the group of Platform Software Test Engineers
Candidate must have experience building and retaining strong technical teams.
Candidate will drive performance management for his or her team and be effective at coordinating and executing on hiring objectives.
Candidate must have mature leadership skills. Experience could include a combination of driving directly managed and matrix managed resources.
The job is highly dynamic and requires proven abilities to handle multiple tasks and priorities across multiple fronts.
Participate in operational planning activities for the group, including budget planning activities.
Utilize previously acquired technical experience to become actively involved in day-to-day projects to meet schedules and resolve problems.
Develop and implement new projects, policies and procedures for the department(s); and ensure that project goals are met.
Take responsibility for results, including costs, methods and staffing.
Utilize people skills and available manager tools to positively impact the development of subordinates within their role and career.
Work closely with hardware vendors to review the vendor FW test plans and test report to meet the required quality criteria.
Must have experience leading Embedded software Testing projects and personnel, preferably in the platforms / systems areas.
Strong knowledge in all Linux based operating systems(Debian,FreeBSD etc)
Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.
Clear understanding of the product development cycle, technical requirements and project management.
A strong understanding of concepts related to computer architecture, operating systems, data structures and programming practices is essential.
Experience in Embedded software and Firmware in the platforms / systems / kernel areas is essential.
Experience with developing budgets and predicting project costs is preferable
Must be able to manage across multiple resource bases (employees, contractors, outside services, etc.).
Must be a confident leader who has demonstrated the ability to thrive in a highly dynamic environment.
Scripting language knowledge (Perl, Python, BASH, etc)
A minimum of 8-10 years of experience as an individual contributor and 2 to 5 years as a people manager is required.
A Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science, a Master Degree, or equivalent experience is required.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects is required
